How did Levi come up with the idea for Momentum?
Levi came up with the idea for Momentum from his experience working remotely, often as a freelancer and in startups.
He wanted to create something that would help him stay motivated and focused throughout the day. Inspired by the concept of a personal dashboard, akin to the sophisticated interfaces seen in movies, he woke up one morning with a vision for the project.
Eager to bring it to life, he designed it in Photoshop and posted the concept on Instagram that afternoon. His long-time friend saw the post and did the initial legwork, validating the idea
How did Levi Bucsis build the initial version of Momentum?
After Levi shared the initial design on Instagram, his friend and longtime collaborator, Jesse, saw the idea and was immediately enthusiastic about it. Jesse took the initiative to start implementing the concept.
However, their busy schedules put the project on hold for about six months, during which time Jesse was the sole user of the prototype.
Eventually, Levi found the time to revisit the project, polish it, and add features to make it ready for launch.
How did Levi launch Momentum and get initial traction?
They began with a soft launch in early October to gather feedback and identify any major bugs, initially sharing it with friends and a few users from the Chrome store. About a month later, Levi posted a comment on an r/productivity thread, which sparked significant interest. The project gained momentum as websites in India and Norway featured it, followed by CNET, leading to its rapid growth.
What was the growth strategy for Momentum and how did they scale?

- Levi’s friends and a couple of initial users found the app through the Chrome store.
- Levi’s comment on Reddit (r/productivity) drove significant attention, and the extension went viral.
