I Grew My Virtual Wellness Coaching Business To $1.2M/Year Despite The Challenges Maintaining Online Presence

Hello again! Remind us who you are and what business you started.
I am Cassandra Hill and I am the owner of Holistic Living Consulting a health & wellness company catering to women particularly women of color. Holistic Living Consulting’s services include virtual holistic wellness coaching and healthy living products to restore a woman’s body.
Holistic Living Consulting envisions a world where health disparities no longer exist for black women. We educate women on the best practices of utilizing plants and faith-based modalities to transform their physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
Holistic Living Consulting has grown considerably in the last year. The company’s revenue tripled from 2020 to 2021. In 2022 I am projecting that the company will double or triple revenue and begin offering digital courses.
Tell us about what you’ve been up to. Has the business been growing?
Since our last conversation, I have grown in ways I had never dreamed. My Facebook public figure page has grown to nearly 10,000.
In June of this year, I will be launching a digital course Self Care Bootcamp for Entrepreneurs. The course will provide real strategies for managing your health and well-being so you can have a successful business. To stay updated on the course release follow me on Facebook.
Studying your audience is crucial in reaching your ideal target audience. Since our last conversation, I have started blogging with Beautiful Brown Girls which provides an opportunity for me to connect with my ideal target audience. For additional brand awareness, the company will begin advertising on television and billboards in the third quarter of this year.
What have been your biggest challenges in the last year?
The pandemic has changed the way people engage with businesses. We live in a society where having a strong online presence is critical. It’s challenging to maintain a strong presence, particularly on social media where it takes time to develop content and respond to comments/messages. Honestly, this continues to be a challenge for me. I plan to bring on an agency this quarter that will manage social media.
Another phenomenon that happened with the pandemic is the heightened awareness of health disparities, particularly among black women. Holistic Living Consulting has made concerted efforts to educate black women on being proactive about their physical, emotional, and spiritual health. We recently began a crowdfunding campaign which will allow us to reach more women, particularly black women on living a healthy and happy life.
What have been your biggest lessons learned in the last year?
Believing in myself has been the biggest lesson learned this year. Within one week I have had incredible opportunities to come my way. One of my books He Restoreth My Soul My Soul Triumph through Adversity won a Book Excellence Awards. Additionally, I was accepted into Goldman Sachs One Million Black Woman Black in the Business program.
Running a business will present many challenges. Trust yourself and when you do make a mistake give yourself grace. No one is perfect and the most successful people in business got it wrong plenty of times before achieving success.
The obstacle that has presented the biggest growth opportunity is securing capital to grow the business. As the business grows it gets to a point where additional support is needed however you haven’t grown enough to build out the team necessary for continued growth. Entrepreneurs should start establishing business credit early in their business. Business credit will allow you to have finances to grow outside of your savings.
What’s in the plans for the upcoming year, and the next 5 years?
Holistic Living Consulting will be launching two digital courses: Self Care Bootcamp for Entrepreneurs and Unlocking the New, True, Authentic You. Currently, one of my books He Restoreth My Soul Triumph through Adversity is available online at Wal-Mart and I am working on having it available in physical locations.
Holistic Living Consulting envisions a world where black women no longer experience health care disparities. In our long-term plan, we will have a wellness center that will serve as an oasis for women, particularly black women to come and experience radical self-care.
No woman should live with dis-ease. To ensure the message of healing reaches all the women, I am called to serve, the company will begin advertising on streaming television and other large media outlets to increase our brand awareness.
What’s the best thing you read in the last year?
One of my favorite pastimes is reading. Robin Roberts book Everybody’s Got Something was a great read. The book shares her story of overcoming many challenges like cancer.
Podcasts that feed my soul are Positively Joyand Blissful Living. These podcasts share inspirational messages that encourage. In becoming a successful business owner there will be many peaks and valleys. When your mind is full of positive messages it’s easy to not allow the negative thoughts to take control of your life.
Advice for other entrepreneurs who might be struggling to grow their business?
An elephant is pregnant between 18-22 months before giving birth. This phenomenon is common among highly intelligent beings. If you are building an empire, understand that it will take time to develop. Don’t chase get-rich-quick schemes only to fall further behind in your business.
Identify your strengths. A tool such as CliftonStrength Finder can guide you identify areas where you are naturally gifted. Once these strengths are identified focus on growing these skills and outsourcing tasks that fall out of your scope of genius.
Build a team that believes in your mission. When you secure the right individual, trust them and don’t micro-manage. Remember your self-care is a priority. To have a successful business your body must be physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy.
