Adam came up with the idea for Docontrol while working as a product manager at Google. He frequently collaborated with third-party partners and shared information through Google Drive.
However, Googleβs information security team repeatedly asked him to revoke access for non-employees, causing frustration and interruptions. Adam realized that with over 100,000 employees, it was difficult for the security team to manage permissions accurately.
This led him to think there might be a better way to handle data sharing that would enhance security while minimizing frustration and boosting productivity.
Over the next three months, he spoke with more than 50 security professionals from various companies in New York, and they all mentioned the same problem in this area of data security, which validated his business idea.
How did Adam build the initial version of DoControl?
Adam engaged potential users by contacting Chief Security Officers (CSOs) and security executives, asking for their input with no commitment.
Only a few agreed to provide regular feedback. Through these interactions, Adam's team developed initial features like data aggregation and analytics, iterating based on feedback to refine the product.
Within three months, they created a valuable solution. They secured their first paying customer, validating their solution's value. This initial success demonstrated a market need and paved the way for scaling the business and increasing the product's value proposition.

What was the growth strategy for DoControl and how did they scale?
Adam and his team used LinkedIn cold messaging to grow their customer base. They identified prospects on LinkedIn, compiled an email list, and then reached out to them. As a result, a portion of the recipients responded and converted into paying customers.
