Tell us about what you’ve been up to! Has the business been growing?

We have grown a lot since we last checked in, with two new employees and revenue up by around 50%!

I've also had some pretty phenomenal personal success with my own writing - achieving a major six-figure book deal with Penguin Random House.

My debut novel - a YA feminist fantasy is due to be launched early 2026.

Obviously this success in my writing is a huge benefit to my business making software for novelists, as it is a compelling validation that I know what I'm doing and that my methods can be extremely successful. I'm a naturally shy person and don't feel very comfortable blowing my own trumpet, but I'm trying to lean into sharing my success in order to show how helpful the software and the Novel Writing Roadmap can be to writers.

There are always downs as well as ups, and even as we were celebrating the dream come true of the book deal, we hit a few bumps along the road in 2024 - we were hit quite hard with changes to the Google algorithms, and have had to become a lot more intentional, and focussed on technical details with regards to our website, rather than simply relying on regularly creating high quality content and trusting that to get us in front of the right people.

The impact of the Google traffic fluctuations also really made us aware of how vulnerable we were to their whimsies, and how out of our control such things were. So we have been looking at diversifying our marketing beyond our usual SEO flow, and advertising via social media, especially Facebook, Pinterest and Youtube. It's early days and we're still learning what works well for us, but it's good to feel a little more in control of the levers.

We have also decided to become a lot more active with regards to creating more useful content in more varied formats, including webinars, interviews, infographics and more. We have a very full on schedule for 2025 and have plans to significantly grow our Youtube presence.

We are feeling energised and excited moving into 2025 and have our aims set on increasing our revenue by another 50%!
