I launched the Money Talk newsletter as a furlough project in 2020 so honestly I had no idea where it would take me - I just needed to do something productive. A lot has changed since then.

I now work as a freelance writer and editor, which keeps me super busy during the day. And as I travel a lot for work, it's been a balancing act trying to do a weekly newsletter at the same time.

To help, I adjusted the format of the newsletter. It still goes out every week but I get a two-week hiatus every quarter so I can catch up with other stuff. And every other newsletter is a lighter version that doesn't take as long to put together.

The biggest change I made was to launch the accompanying website (heymoneytalk.co.uk). This I use as an archive for all of the content, a funnel for the newsletter and a space for advertising - and it's the best decision I could have ever made.

The change in Google algorithm has brought a big uptick in traffic, so for the first time I made over £1,000 a month in advertising revenue alone.

Now I see the website as the main business and the newsletter as the secondary source of income (I still have paid subscribers).
