Despite Google Penalties, I Grew My Online Text Editor Tool To $6K/Month [Passive Income]
This is a follow up story for HTMLG. If you're interested in reading how they got started, published over 3 years ago, check it out here.
Hello again! Remind us who you are and what business you started.
Hello, my name is Ferenc Denes, and I run the online HTML Editor, an online text editor that converts documents to HTML. The editor helps to process and clean the code. It runs in the web browser without installing any desktop program. It has a free demo that allows you to give it a try and learn how it works.
This is a passive income business, that requires very little maintenance, like answering support questions, and it brings $6K per month as passive income.
I work only about 4 hours a day and my job is my hobby.
I didn’t change anything significant on the site in years and the income is the same as previously. I wasn’t affected by the pandemic or by the special military operations.
Tell us about what you’ve been up to. Has the business been growing?
I have roughly 40 passive income websites and I keep launching new websites regularly. My latest addition to my portfolio is an online date countdown widget, which is a brand new niche for me. It might take years to bring significant organic traffic.
My first project, Ruwix.com is turning 10 years oldI moved some of my websites to new and better domain names that are easier to remember:
- Geek Prank to Pranx
- Text Fancy to TextEditor
- Score Counter to ScoreCount
The transfers went smoothly and I didn’t lose any significant traffic.
I have tried many times to hire a programmer but I always realize that I am more efficient alone. I gave up trying and now I only outsource tasks that I’m unable to do, like translating articles to other languages. I’ll do both programming and SEO.
I’m investing in domain names. I’m happy to pay thousands of dollars for premium domain names if they’re special or a potential future competitor might use them against me.
What have been your biggest challenges in the last year?
Some of my sites were hit by manual Google penalties last year for unnatural inbound links but I have managed to recover from that. Thankfully I have 40+ sites and it’s not a tragedy if some of them go down.
The image below sums it up perfectly:
What’s in the plans for the upcoming year, and the next 5 years?
I’ll keep launching new online tools that don’t require too much maintenance. I don’t have any targets because I already have more than I need.
I have two awesome sons, 2 and 4 years old, and I’m trying to spend as much time with them as possible. I work only about 4 hours a day, just to keep things running. I don’t wish to earn more.
